Salary Increment Will Reduce Corruption – Nlc

The NLC revealed this yesterday in Abuja after its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and also demanded for a review of the present minimum wage paid to workers in accordance with the economic realities.

NLC President, Ayuba Wabba said that it was unacceptable for Nigerians including the labour force to live in poverty while few privileged people continue to steal the nation’s resources and stash it in foreign banks.

He gave the assurance that the labour movement would lead the protest to ensure that the federal government recovered the stolen funds.

The NLC president further said that the NEC would demand from government and the tripartite partners for the review of the minimum wage.

He noted that the state of the nation’s economy has become of great concern to the labour union as it has affected the working class and had led to many states not being able to pay salaries as at when due.

Comrade Wabba urged the judiciary system to hasten the trials of those indicted for stealing the nation’s treasury and told the anti-corruption agency to device a process to promptly respond to allegations of corruption.

Meanwhile NLC has promised that the union would follow up on banks withholding the bailout funds being provided by the federal government for payment of workers’ salary.
