Army Celebrates Day In Maiduguri

Maiduguri is under lock down amidst activities to participate in the annual army day celebration.

The capital of Bornu was strategically selected to host the celebration in order to boost the morale of soldiers combatting the dreaded Boko Haram group in the region.

According to The Nation, many of the roads in the metropolis were either turned into a single way road or barricaded thereby resulting into traffic.

Army Celebrates Day In Maiduguri


Many vehicles were diverted from the major roads while some commuters were turned back on the way to their office.

The chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah and other top military personnel are in Maiduguri for the celebration.

The roads which Lt. Gen.Minimah is to use were closed to the general public.

The celebration began on Friday with prayers in Mosques and a service at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria church in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

Minimah is expected to decorate troops with medals and also pay courtesy visits to Governor Kashim Shettima; and the Shehu of Borno, Dr ABubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army said Boko Haram suspects that have been in their detention cells for months will be released after investigation confirmed they were innocence.
